Possibly one of the stranger combinations we have done, but if you love peanut butter, it’s the one for you. It is sweet, savoury, rich and cheesy all at the same time and a personal favourite of ours. This makes much more peanut butter and American cheese than you need for a single sandwich, but both store well.

Serves 1

2 rashers (slices) of smoked streaky (lean) bacon (optional)

2 slices of sourdough bread, buttered on one side

2 tbsp red chilli jam

For the peanut butter

500g (3¾ cups) blanched raw peanuts
